Rain expected in Nairobi, Mombasa, and other regions this weekend

The northeastern counties—Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo—are expected to remain mostly sunny during the day and partly cloudy at night.
Several regions across Kenya, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Machakos, are expected to receive rainfall over the weekend, according to the latest weather forecast by the Kenya Meteorological Department.
In its five-day outlook covering Saturday, February 15, to Wednesday, February 19, the department indicated that areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka—should expect rain on Saturday afternoon and night.

Showers are also likely on Sunday afternoon, while Monday to Wednesday will be mostly sunny during the day and partly cloudy at night.
Temperatures in these regions are forecast to peak at 28°C over the weekend, with lows of 11°C.
From Monday to Wednesday, highs of 27°C and lows of 10°C are expected.
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and the broader Rift Valley including counties such as Kisumu, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Busia, rain is expected in the afternoons and nights on Saturday and Sunday.
On Monday, there will be morning and nighttime showers in some areas, while Tuesday morning is also expected to be wet. No rainfall is forecast for Wednesday.
Temperatures in these areas will reach highs of 33°C and lows of 10°C.
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale, are expected to remain mostly dry, though Kwale may experience showers on Sunday afternoon.
Daytime temperatures in these areas are forecast to exceed 33°C, while nighttime lows may reach 21°C.
In the southeastern lowlands, which cover Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River County, rain is expected on Saturday and Sunday.
Showers are forecast for the afternoons and nights near Kilimanjaro and along the Tanzania border.
The mornings and nights will be partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging from highs of 32°C to lows of 12°C over the five days.

The Director General of the Kenya Meteorological Department, David Gikungu, has advised residents in the northwestern and northeastern regions to remain cautious due to expected strong southeasterly winds, which may reach speeds of 25 knots (12.5 m/s) or more.
